The Marion City Schools Board of Education recently voted to suspend the ACCEL program, which is a project-oriented learning environment at Marion Harding High School that incorporates the hands-on approach of STEM schools.
As reported in The Marion Star there were a variety of reasons why, including low numbers and a lack of funding.
Superintendent James Barney and his staff continue to be dedicated to bringing technology into the schools, but this program is destined to be history. Maybe it's too much to start such a program in a rural area when metropolitan areas can dedicate a whole school, not just a classroom, to such an effort.
